Food Aid to Assist Cyclone Victims in Myanmar

General Motors Global Aid initiative is proud to partner with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in order to provide food assistance to hundreds of thousands of people in Myanmar whose lives were threatened by the devastating Cyclone Nargis.

On May 2, 2008, a powerful cyclone hit the coast of Myanmar, flattening homes and flooding streets. About 130,000 people were killed or went missing. Towns were left unrecognizable, and thousands of people were left with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

Today, many are rebuilding their homes – and their lives – with help from WFP. But much more remains to be done. For example, rice production in the Ayeyarwaddy delta region has not fully recovered yet, and this is having a dramatic impact on the nation’s food security. In 2009, rice production in this area and in the largest city of Myanmar is expected to be half of what it was in 2008.  WFP needs your help now.

Please make a gift to the hungry cyclone victims in Myanmar by following the link below. As a part of the GM Global Aid initiative,  General Motors will match dollar for dollar every donation made.

Even a small donation will go a long way. This food will give strength and hope to the hungry and help the people of Myanmar  build a better future.
