From The Field
From The FieldEvery day, WFP staff in more than 70 countries around the world are working to make sure that people trapped in a vicious cycle of hunger and poverty receive the food and nutrition they need to survive. In addition to emergency operations, WFP works in many of the world’s forgotten places to help the hungry move from reliance on aid to self-sufficiency. In 2010, WFP aims to feed more than 90 million people in 73 countries.Who are the hungry? They are the babies whose mothers cannot produce enough milk. They are the elderly with no relatives to care for them. They are the unemployed in urban slums and the landless farmers tilling others’ fields. They are the orphans of HIV/AIDS and the sick, who need special or increased food intake to survive. WFP is helping people around the world not only to survive, but to thrive, moving from poverty to productivity. From the field, here are some stories of WFP at work: |
