In January 2008, Friends of WFP launched a grassroots initiative to mobilize the U.S. public in support of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to raise awareness about global hunger. In order to grow and expand the WFP Committee program, we are training a new layer of volunteer leadership throughout 2009, known as “State Coordinators.”
We are actively recruiting for State Coordinators in the following states:
Southern California
Connecticut
Illinois
Texas |

State Coordinators will be responsible for the management and oversight of WFP Committees. This volunteer position requires a very specific type of volunteer, with energy and time to commit to remotely managing their WFP Committee volunteers. State Coordinators will go through a two-month training and orientation which will be conducted via conference calls and online tools.

Responsibilities
- Manage your state’s Committee Coordinators on a day-to-day basis
- Organize a monthly conference call with each of your committees
- Organize a monthly conference call between the Point Persons in your state
- Familiarize yourself with FAQ Fundraising policies – be able to answer questions
- Familiarize yourself with the Advocacy 101 Guide – be able to answer questions on the current legislative initiative
- Help committees brainstorm, as needed, for events
- Keep up with current events, especially those related to global hunger and food security
- Participate in monthly educational conference calls with Friends of WFP
- Participate in a monthly conference call with fellow State Coordinators
Qualifications
- A creative thinker – how to engage local communities on global hunger?
- Excellent communication skills: This job is conducted remotely, and you must demonstrate above-average ability to communicate via telephone and email
- Cordial, flexible and professional – this is a volunteer opportunity for all involved
- Excellent management skills – ability to work with lots of people and keep volunteers interested
- Available time to be consistent and reliable in the role of volunteer management
- Interested in volunteer management

Training
This volunteer position will begin with a two-month intensive training period (via conference calls and online tools), after which you will assume responsibility for the committees in your state. Once training is complete, there will be monthly conference calls for follow-up education.
