DONOR SPOTLIGHT

WFP Ohio Committee Coordinator Organizes Fundraiser
Gretchen Wallisch, a Committee Coordinator of Ohio, organized a benefit in Athens to raise awareness and funds for the efforts to end world hunger. The event was held at Casa Cantina, a local bar and restaurant, as part of its well known International Dance Night. The evening’s DJ, Daniel Johnson (also known as DJ Self Help), agreed to donate a portion of the night’s proceeds to Friends of the World Food Program. The event raised enough money to provide a nutritious meal to nearly 900 children in school.

The generous support of businesses, foundations, schools, student groups, ethnic groups, religious organizations, and individuals from across the country and around the world plays a critical role in the fight against hunger.  Every gift makes a difference, and Friends of WFP is grateful to all of our donors for their compassion and generosity.

Some donor highlights include:

In May 2008, Kerry Markey, of the WFP State Committee for Connecticut, organized a Students Feeding Students event. Partnering with the Carmen Arace Intermediate School in Bloomfield, Connecticut, Kerry asked students to bring 25 cents to school everyday with their lunch, which is the amount it costs WFP to feed a child in school. The event lasted ten days, and raised $1,655 with the help of generous parents and faculty.
