Friends of the World Food Program

Last year’s global food crisis and this year’s economic crisis are pushing more people into hunger. There are now more than 1 billion chronically hungry people worldwide, up from 850 million a few years ago.

Despite the scope and the magnitude of the problem, the United States can partner with other countries to successfully address global hunger by developing and implementing a comprehensive global food security strategy.

There are numerous U.S. government agencies and programs focused on alleviating global hunger.  A comprehensive strategy will enhance coordination across these agencies and enable a more effective, efficient and accountable approach to solving hunger.
